This is general information, not a coverage decision and not medical advice. Rules change, and a Medicare Advantage plan can differ from Original Medicare. Confirm a specific stay with Medicare, the plan, the hospital discharge planner, or your county Aging and Disability Resource Connection.
Searching for the best short-term rehab in Bergen County usually means you need a way to compare, not a winner. This site does not rank facilities.
Start with the public record
Open the Bergen County short-term rehab list and the nursing-home list linked on this page. A short-term tag means the state license is a hospital-based subacute unit, or CMS published a short-stay quality rating. It does not mean a bed is open or that the home is the right one.
How to read stars, staffing, and therapy
- On Medicare Care Compare, read the overall star and the three parts: health inspections, staffing, and quality measures. One star is not the whole story.
- Staffing hours, including registered-nurse hours and weekend staffing, are reported by the nursing home. Compare them, and ask on a tour who is in the building at night.
- Short-stay quality measures describe the home’s average results for people who leave, including hospital transfers. They are not a count of therapy hours for your parent. Ask the home how many therapy days a typical short stay includes, and who decides when it ends.
- Ask for the latest New Jersey inspection as well. State and federal reviews are not the same document.
The Next Right Step is free for families. No facility, agency, or provider pays to be listed, ranked, or recommended, and we don't receive referral fees. If we ever accept a sponsor, that listing will be clearly labeled “Sponsored,” and this note will be updated.
Questions families ask
Does this page name the best rehab in Bergen County?
No. There is no ranking. The links open the public directory so you can compare licenses and CMS fields yourself.
What should I read besides the overall star?
Medicare’s guide says to read health inspections, staffing, and quality measures, and to visit. Staffing hours are reported by the nursing home.
